EMF Scientific offers the services principally of two experienced EMF experts – David Renew and John Swanson. David owns and runs the company, John acts as a consultant, we draw on other support when we need it, and between us, we will make sure we meet your needs in the best way possible.
David Renew BSc (Hons) PhD FInstP CPhys MIET CEng
David’s first degree is from the University of Birmingham in Physics and his PhD is from Southampton University in Electrical Engineering. He worked for the CEGB and National Grid from 1974 to 2013. He has extensive experience of international standards work and occupational exposure assessments and has worked on EMFs from broadcast and mobile phone masts as well as power systems.
John Swanson MA DPhil FInstP CPhys FIET CEng FSRP CRadP
John has a first degree and DPhil from the University of Oxford in Physics. He worked for National Grid from 1989-2019. He has published over 40 scientific papers and has a particular passion for effective communication. He has been an Expert Witness and a Media Spokesperson numerous times.
We both worked in the UK electricity industry before leaving, totalling nearly 70 years between us, and between us, managing the EMF issue for the industry for many years. Our experience covers research, international standards, exposure limits, public policy, assessing EMF emissions, the consent process for new infrastructure, and every aspect of communications – from the theoretical understanding of risk communication to delivering through websites, written material, and direct to the public.
